Talking The Hanson - RSPB Wetland Trust

Plans for the future

The first two wetland blocks have already been created and are attracting a range of waterbirds. Each reedbed block will contain open water - small meres - linked by ditches and channels. Following each phase of restoration, land will be progressively handed to the RSPB, and we will take on the reserve’s management.
Where there is now a working quarry and farmland, there will be a nature reserve that will provide an educational resource and extensive public access, including footpaths and cycleways.
In the long-term, access will be available from points in both Huntingdon and South Cambridgeshire Districts, using cycleways, bridleways, footpaths and potentially river traffic from the Great Ouse.
This project has been developed with the support and involvement of local authorities, statutory agencies and local people.
