Who really knows what's going on in Tibet? We're not flooded with refugees are we? China won't let go of Tibet because there are provinces within PRC that would seek independence if Beijing were to relinquish control, and ultimately they fear the country would be broken up, much as has happened to the old USSR. They're certainly not there for Tibet's wealth and natural resources. Tibet does supply Xinjiang Province with one essential though, water from the himalayas.
