We are now in a position that we just cannot reverse. We have gone to far, we have precious little energy alternatives. Oil has reached its levels of maximum production. It is a downward spiral from now on.
The only possible small salvation, is solar energy. Nuclear is to dirty and unsafe. Forget wind and wave power, they are never going to produce, at this moment, the amount of renewable energy that we need to sustain us at present levels.
We are at the mercy of mother nature, we have taken, taken, and taken,
