Default Britain Braces For Wild Winter Weather

Forecasters are warning of the worst storms of the winter - with heavy rain and gales expected to tear across Britain.

Severe weather warnings are in place for all of England, Wales and Northern Ireland - as well as much of Scotland.
There are particular fears of coastal flooding, as spring tides coincide with the wild weather.
And with winds of up to 80 miles an hour expected, the official advice is to stay indoors tonight and avoid unnecessary journeys

And one viewer phoned into to say that there is a hurricane about to hit England. Let me state that there is no chance of that happening.

I have driven home over the country roads from Bacup to Burnley tonight very quiet, not much of a breeze though we had a bit of hailstone earlier. I do think the weather people go over the top with the warnings these days, especially since Mr Fish cocked up.

Mr Fish didn't cock up. The forecast he made was actually about a different place elsewhere in the world, not Britain.

I've seen the various references to that and I still remember the actual forecast and although there was one which referred to somewhere else there was definitely one which related to Britain. He was giving our weather forcast and said that categorically there was NO chance of a hurricane - but the wind direction changed and it did hit the south coast. He's tried to wangle out of it since by claiming it related to something else but the footage is still in existence and can be seen.

Anyway round this neck of the woods it seems quite calm at the mo. Our Bishop was getting all serious about it yesterday and said that if we ended up with our homes destroyed we should all head for the church which would be open and would provide us with shelter.

Hel. We are talking about a stiff breeze, NOT global thermonuclear war here.

Talk about "panic mongering".

Turned out to be a fizzer.

Von, this is what the British do best. Wrong sort of snow, leaves on the line, all sorts of little things to bring the country to a grinding halt.
