Ok in it might still happen here and there, but most of our coal fields have gone, now whilst I don't know just how much life is left in the coal fired power stations around the UK, but I cannot see the government wanting to build anymore.

I guess like Willow says you could have a mixture of the three renewable sources, but it will still only be a small contributing factor, at least for now anyway, and mainly because of mother nature.

I do acknowledge that modern technology does continuously improve at a rapid rate, so in the future it maybe possible to get more from renewable sources as a result, but not just yet.

billions of tons of coal are burnt every year, drax coal comes mainly from poland imported via immingham docks which also supply the big station in the trent valley

coal from eastern europe is largley sh1te & brown spits & crackles, british is older & burns far better, there huge coal reserves left, however due to the efforts of unions (communists) the industry where destoryed

green issues / gobal warming is a load of sh1te I'am sure 70% tax on road fuel makes a huge differance when a site like selby produce millions of tons of co2, just another way to tax the sheep

a wind turbine has appeared on yorkshire water site round here

I'am certian it's imported
I'am certian a gut will have to travel to maintain it
I'am certian it uses engry to get in started
I'am certian they have to turn if off when its too windy

I wonder who many months/ year if has to go before it offsets the carbon foot print of making, building & running...... ?

Seems I stand corrected on my opinions around coal fired power stations, but not to worry if anything it'll teach me to pay more attention and do my research properly, however whilst bearing in mind what numerous others have said about nuclear power generation, I still think it would be a more reliable resource, plus even with the pros and con associated you can't have your cake and eat it in this day and age.

We have at this time, 200 years of coal reserves in this country, based on our needs at the moment.
It is totally down to the power conglomerates, who constantly inform us that it is costing them more money to obtain gas and other forms of energy. Total bullshit. There is just not as much profit from coal mining as opposed to drilling for gas.
We are being conned right left and centre from the likes of BP and the Russian Oligarchs "Gazprom" PUTIN is a former KGB, Politburo thug, who is no better than his former communist employers .

You are dead right, coal can be burned cleanly if the power companies put there mind to it. The T woman managed to kill the coal industry in Britain, her and that idiot Scargill. I ask you who calls a miners strike in the middle of summer and with high coal stocks. Had the strike been the previous winter we would still have a coal industry and not be held to ransom by russia
