Rep Power: 10 | | Spring and winter are now indistinguishable due to climate change, says nature expert With the sight of daffodils appearing in December and magnolia trees blossoming early, even the casual observer has noticed that the seasons are out of kilter.
Such horticultural confusion has prompted one of Britain's most respected gardeners to suggest that the official date of spring should be brought forward because there is no winter any more.
Dr Nigel Taylor, curator of Kew Gardens, came up with the radical idea after witnessing one of the mildest winters on record. And he became convinced of the merit of his idea when he discovered plants native to Britain have burst into flower earlier than usual this year.
On his daily rounds through the maze of plants at the botanic gardens, Dr Taylor found English Hawthorn had grown leaves in the last week of January - more than two months earlier than normal.
The discovery makes the plant's alternative name of Mayflower - because of the month it is in full bloom - somewhat redundant. Spring and winter are now indistinguishable due to climate change, says nature expert | the Daily Mail
Well, I knew this. Bright sunny and warm here today, in the middle of February? |

I've heard that this global warming will eventually sort it's self out, but others have said the damage is done, I tend to go with the latter, these attempts to redress the balance is just a damage limitation exercise, that in some cases cost a small fortune with little return.
Now whether we'll see any return on that considerable expenditure in the future I don't know.

Homosapiens, for all our faults, are probable the most able forms of life that are able to adapt without majors upsets.
Unfortunately, the ones that are unable to adapt will die out. Charles Darwin and all that. |

Rep Power: 10 | | Re: Spring and winter are now indistinguishable due to climate change, says nature ex we are all killing the planet, there are already tribes whos lands are barren, the polar bear will soon be extinct the ice caps are melting. What we are not polluting we are chopping down. But we never learn no one wants to accept any responsibility or alter their life style in any meaningful way.
It is far easier to say it isn't really our fault or it has gone too far so no point trying.
What about the future generations what kind of planet are they going to inherit?
The one thing that is sure is that you can mes with mother nature, but she will always win in the end. The planet will payback for what has been done.
Man is a very small speck in the great sheme of things.

Where recycling is concerned alright now but shame we(I don't just mean GB here) hadn't though about it years ago when manufacturing was at it's highest rather then now, but typical, folk just don't learn till it's to late.

Where do you dispose of the dirty uranium that cant be used in bombs, where do you put all the shit from decommissioned nuclear power stations.
land fill problem qn a humongous scale, but this one could be thought of before it is too late, by not embarking on the madness in the first place.

Rep Power: 0 | | Re: Spring and winter are now indistinguishable due to climate change, says nature ex We don't burn coal anymore, or if we do, not much of it, the retrieval of coal along with the other factors involved, would make it non viable in this country, plus I suspect we'd import it anyway. we don't get enough wind on a regular basis to power wind turbines efficiently enough to create electricity, so that puts paid to that.
Nuclear power, yes is cheap and must be surely cleaner then in past generations as they would have to fall in line with legislation regarding the environment, without power stations like at Heysham for example where would we be now?, it's not windy enough outside, sufficient for proper power generation that's for sure.
I don't mind solar power though must admit, only seen them heating water but it's not bad and shows good potential, in some places they have like huge 'fields' so to speak with solar panels in them and not bad nether, America I think there in.
