Following a campaign led by The Telegraph, Mr Darling, the Chancellor, has assured Labour MPs that he will look again at "green tax" plans to increase Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) retrospectively on vehicles bought before 2001. The tax proposals - which would see 18m motorists face above-inflation rises in their car tax - have prompted a popular backlash. Such has been the reaction, Cabinet ministers are now increasingly concerned that the Government is antagonising motorists at a time of growing economic unease. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/labour/2207108/Alistair-Darling-forced-into-retreat-over-car-tax-increases.html I think maybe there would have been a serious backlash had this had been introduced.

The question is, "is it too late to save the country". Frankly I don't give a damn about saving Labour (or Tory or LD for that matter) they are a spent force and I think they know it. What I want to know is if we stand a chance of rescuing the country from the brink of socio-economic extiction to which this pratts have lead us. H.
