| Ministers are considering plans to force long-term unemployed people to work for benefits, according to a draft of proposals to be published on Monday. A "work for dole" scheme would require people to do "full time activities" to benefit themselves and their community. The leaked document says everyone other than severely disabled people, carers and parents of young children should be expected to look and train for work. The Tories say many of the ideas were put forward by them six months ago. The government is due to unveil its Welfare Green Paper for England and Wales on Monday - but a draft copy leaked on Friday suggests it will contain US-style "work for dole" programmes and a reassessment of all existing incapacity benefit claimants. I think it is an excellent idea. I should like to point out that not all long term unemployed are lazy bastards. I know some who work voluntarily in the community and work more hours per week than the average factory worker. One friend who hasn't been able to get work ( there are reasons) for over three years, works full time unpaid in the towns community centre Cafe and in the internet room. Then on Friday nights when others are on the town, turns out on patrol, with the street angels. She does all this because she thinks it only right. Why should others just doss around? Bring it in and quick.

emmylou.......cba ? Cant be arsed ? Right ? Im not opposed to some sort of work for your entitlement in principle..... but........ What sort of work will these people be doing ? Would it be work somebody else could get paid for ? And while they are 'working' for their benifit (could be benefit) how do they look for real work ?

yeah thats it........the benefit i am talking about is disability living allowance (for my child, not me)and he is the reason i am unable to work atm. none of the advisers at the job centre told me i could claim it... i'm gunna look for a bit of unpaid work for after the hols, more chance of it fitting round my child as he wont fit around work...... possibly home-start or sure start............. |
