Andy: Duke forks out £6,000 of taxpayers money

Some people went by train from London for £14 return. Others drove there and back by car for under £25. But when the Duke of York went to the Farnborough International Airshow last week, he spent £6,000 of taxpayers' money hiring a helicopter.

The Duke - nicknamed Airmiles Andy for his excessive use of expensive chartered aircraft - left Kensington Palace in the French-built Twin Squirrel helicopter at 9.30am
and landed at Farnborough after a 15-minute flight.

Just over four hours later, he flew back to Kensington, despite a spokesman admitting that he did not have any engagements scheduled for that afternoon.

Now, I've always liked Andy, but this is way out of order.

Given the choice between my taxes going to a corrupt and secretive government with its snout firmly in the trough, or going to an open and accountable monarchy and royal family, Andy can have all the helicopter rides he wants.

The British Royal Family is one of the few truly great things about Great Britain that our evil governments haven't managed to sell off to our international competitors or just destroy out of spite... They are a world recognisable emblem of our country and we should not begrudge them these symbols of the status they are entitled to.

Then again, think how many illegal imigrants could be housed unfairly at our expense for that much money... which do you think YOU would prefer your money to go towards?
