Lawson was on the telly a few weeks ago and he was asked bout this, he reckons it should have been shut down long ago, and left to the vultures in the city.

Of course it should. There is more to this than meets the eye, I am sure. But what?

Are, that would be the loans it made to various Government (etc) figures. If the bank folds, its books become public. If the bank had been bought its books would have become public (All those bidding to buy it promised this). The only way to keep the books sealed was to nationalise it.
