Chris Grayling has described the news that unemployment has jumped by 60,000 as "an extremely worrying development". Chris Grayling has described the news that unemployment rose by 60,000 between April and June as "an extremely worrying development". Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the unemployment rate has increased to 5.4%, with 1.67 million people now out of work. Chris, the Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said that such a "striking jump" in unemployment was not a good sign given the current economic slowdown. And he stressed, "Gordon Brown and his Ministers need to explain what they can do to stop this trend continuing." Last edited by Sweetpea; 13-08-2008 at 12:37. |

Every so often the ONS changes the way it calculates unemployment, and it seems each adjustment reduces the total figure... Unfortunately the raw data is protected by the DPA so we just have to believe that we are not being completely misled... H.
