| A COUPLE who won £100k on a scratchcard and blew it in a year are now whingeing that a local council won’t give them housing benefit. Grasping John and Louise Nickels moan they can’t afford the £82-a-week rent for their £400,000 council flat. They moved in before the October 2006 win and paid off hundreds in rent arrears. Their benefit was then stopped but they still claim £90 a week incapacity benefit. They blew the £100k on a £20,000 caravan, hols, home makeover, car, TV, fishing gear and playing FRUIT MACHINES. In Florida they visited Universal Studios and SeaWorld and took two HELICOPTER trips. The scroungers – who haven’t worked for years and have an unemployed son Paul, 25 – are also going to Turkey in May. But when their cash ran out last November, Louise, 47, of Fulham, West London, contacted Hammersmith and Fulham Council for benefit. They were turned down because they could not account for £29,580 withdrawn from cash machines and £12,000 moved to a new account. He added: “We can’t prove we’ve spent all the money. "They want receipts for everything. John, 52, is fuming and they have refused to pay rent since February. “A lot went on general living. A pint costs £3 and when two of you go out, money doesn’t go far. John has been off work for years with a frozen shoulder, a condition easily treated with anti-inflammatory drugs. Louise claims she is waiting for a hip replacement op. A council spokesman confirmed a housing benefit application had been turned down, but could not comment further. Scratchcard spongers | Waste £100k | Still want benefits | The Sun |HomePage|News My advice, go swivel!!

20,000 for a caravan??? Na wewll. They must still be able to sell that. But basically they are right, 100K does NOT go very far. Say Six drinks per night four nights per week for two people. So 12 drinks per night is 36, four nights 144, over ten weeks is 1440. And there is not just two but THREE people living off the money. So add another 700. Is 2140 pound every ten weeks. 7632 per year, just in drinks. THEN ther is the home improvements, the caravan, the holidays. A car is what? 30 to 40 k? (How much are cars in the U.K now?) EASY to get rid of 100k. |

As with most manufacturing industries just another british brand in foreign hands, but a indepently owned Jaguar would never be able to stand on its own two feet, as for production abroad it will only damage the brand so is unlikley for the near future, however I fully expect Landrovers to be proudced in time in india chances are firstly in kit form as they once did with austin rovers? As we are part of gobal economy our standard of living is too high to manufacture even high priced goods, I wonder if we would be better of removing the welfare state to cut our overheads?
