Default Petrol stations run dry as early buying begins

Precautionary buying of fuel began today as a refinery strike looked set to force the closure of Britain's biggest oil pipeline and led to warnings of pump prices of £1.50 a litre.

The development came as a Government minister said he could not guarantee that motorists would be able to fill up at garages during the two-day strike.

Up to 1,200 workers at the Grangemouth refinery in Scotland will walk out on Sunday for two days in a row over pensions, forcing its closure.
The 700,000-barrel-a-day Forties pipeline delivers one third of the UK's daily oil output and cannot function properly without power and steam from Grangemouth.

Interesting to see that this is getting a lot more coverage, now that the reality of the closure of the Fortes field has had a chance to settle in. It ain't just a Scottish problem any more.

I gather one petrol station not a million miles from here has been told they're going to have to pay £1.38/litre next week - that's the cost price, not the retail.

Petrol price to break through £5 a gallon as forecourts sell out amid fuel panic

A major fuel crisis will send petrol and diesel prices soaring this weekend.

Industrial action has led to the closure of the Grangemouth refinery in Scotland, which produces 10 per cent of the country's fuel.

Ours has been over £5/gallon for a good while now. That's not news to us.
