Angry And My Friends think I'm nutts when I say NO GUNS!

I do not let my children (Both boys) play with guns at all, and will not give them toy guns friends have bought them either, after being a child in a family where air rifles were housed and having my brother point one at my face point blank.... and pull the trigger, has left me mentally scarred about them, even when my husband had one... I went nutts about where it was kept and how etc... so for anyone to leave a gun where a 5yr old can get hold of it beggers belief..... You are so right MC, just watched this on the news. I cannot understand why airguns are still on sale

ive found that if you dont buy them guns they still play gun games, they can make them out of lego, use their hanbds, even a toilet roll tube can be a gun...... what about water pistols?

I agree that any kind of (real) gun shoudl be kept well away from children and that the stupid air gun things should be banned.

Once again, I have to disagree completely with a "Ban guns" theme.

What has the gun done wrong? What have I done wrong? Why should I be punished because some muppet allowed their child to play with something that wasn't, and isn't, a childs toy.

If it had been a nail gun would you now be crying for a ban on nailguns? What if it had been a power drill? Or a reciprocating saw? Would you ban powertools?

Of course not, and a ban on air guns is just as ludicrous. What should be done is that the EXISTING laws on the storage and safe handling of lethal firearms should be enforced.

Otherwise you'll have me standing on your doorstep on a sunday morning asking why I'm no longer permitted to pursue my perfectly safe and legal hobby.

I am not saying ban them ... but for any owner of a gun to be checked out to have proper training and storage of the item... which I believe not may people have!

My Dad deemed it safe to keep his air rifle on top of the wardrobe... it wasn't.... also compulsery gun schools for people who own them on saftey storage etc... which isn't done unless they have joined a gun club.

Sorry I do say ban them and have been jumped from a great height for doing so, so reaching for tin hat.
hippy shouts.

Ban air guns, bb guns, and any other guns that fire a dangerous projectile.
If you must shoot something buy a spud gun.

Ok Mad-Cow, that's seems common sense to me...

As you probably know, I don't own a lead-slinging air-riffle, but I do own a number of airsoft guns, which are classified in law as RIF or Realistic Imitation Firearms, which means (or implies) they are non-lethal. There is no restriction on who can own them (Except you must be over 16 I think). These guns are kept unloaded, and are stored out of site at my home.

I also own a very low-power lead-slinging air-pistol. I keep the gun stored out of sight and away from the ammo.

Then again, there are no children in my home. If there were, I would have all my guns, both lead-slinging and airsoft, locked in a secured cabinet. In fact I'm considering this anyway as some of my airsoft kit is expensive and I'd be upset if it got nicked.

Why? Do you consider it fair to say ban everything you don't personally want to do?

There is a different 'vibe' that comes with power tools.

Clint Eastwood never took out a series of sweaty moustachioed gringos with a Black and Decker.
As dangerous as power tools can be, they are not portrayed as macho extensions of male virility.
Give a child a chainsaw they will play at felling a tree, give the same child a firearm, they will play at killing someone.

You've not watched Leathal Weapon 2 then? Where Danny Glover kills two assailants with a nail-gun?

Or hollywood chainsaw hookers (Or the texas chainsaw masacre for that matter).
