Not quite.

Al quida, or whatever they vcall themselves, are fighting for "WORLD JIHAD".

Irak and Afghanistan are just excuses, the same as "Free Ireland" became an excuse after the UDA/IRA bosses started making bloody FORTUNES out of their ability to run. basically "mafia" schemes, all over N.I.
never, but I wasnt a soldier I was a young woman going to work. I expected to be safe.
I am not belittling what the soldiers had to endure, which was awful I had friend serving in Northern Ireland.
I was talking about the feelings I had just going about my day to day life in the town Lived in.
totally different conversation.
Maybe I miss read or misinterpreted the thread. I thought it was about the perceived threat if terrorism, comparing the IRA the Al Queda.
I only have my personal experience to judge by so that is what I did.
I have never had a grenade thrown at me, so cannot even comprehend how awful that is.
I can only tell of my experience.
To tell what a soldier suffers, never having been one, would be presumptuous on my part and totally unacceptable

You are right Poppy I raised the thread because I just wondered who people perceived to be the bigger threat to national security. I have a big fear of there being a terror campaign by Muslim fanatics but can't remember having the same fear when the IRA were about.
My brother served in Northern Ireland and my brother-in-law has served in Iraq but I would never say I know how they felt whilst under fire. I do know the effects it can have on their family.

N.I, Falklands and Gulf I, for me.

N.I was TOTALY different. You did not know WHO had the gun. Could be the nun, could be the mother with a pram (Arrested three that were carrying guns or ammunition), the squad before us nicked a priest with an AK 47 under his dress!

Falklands. Conventional war. He wore the other uniform you ordered him to surender, which most did, or you shot.

Gulf I, I was mostly in the colators office, but DID do some patrols. Very much like the Falklands.

Irak/Afghanistan however.

Irak STARTED, from the mates I have that are there, VERY like Gulf I, buit has now degenerated to a cross between Northern Ireland and Palastine.

Afghanistan. I WAS there. VERY like N.I in feeling. The enemy do not wera uniforms and badges.

The feeling that the next one you shoot at just MAY be a 14 year old with his play station under his robe to keep it from the sand, is a SHITTER.

Because that play station, even when it LOOKS like a P.S, can also be a bomb, using the outer casing as a disguise.

The main trouble is, with N.I, Afghanistan, and, from my mates Irak, is that you can trust NO one that you did not come out of the barracks with that morning/night. And even when they wear Afghani police/army uniform, and have lived in the same barracks as you for MONTHS, you NEVER know if they are not just waiting....

THERE it is a survival trait. When you come back, it can cause some REAL problems if you can not get out of "the habit".

Make good Coppers though! evilwipz
