Yeah, I liked Bugsy. Couldn't take too much of him, could lead to depression...

I think everyone has missed the REAL threat... The people in charge of the "Threat Level" assessments who can panic the population into giving up their freedoms just by saying "We are now at threat level mauve" or whatever. Al-Quada may be a worry, the IRA were certainly more consistent, but throughout all of these troubles runs the common thread of our freedoms and rights slowly but surely being erroded "For security and the common good"... Now we have 42 days... Why? The police (on the whole) don't want it, the former boss of MI6 says it's a bad idea and won't help (And my make matters worse), but now we can be locked up with out charge for 6 weeks just on SUSPICION, or rather just because someone SAYS there is a suspicion of a terrorist connection. What about RIPA? Now your local council can legally spy on ANY aspect of your life, for any reason they can think of. Your kid's school can get your mobile phone records, the dole office can get your credit card details (To see if you might be working somewhere?) and so on... And you all think the IRA or Al-Quada are the ones who are the biggest threat to this country and our way of life? Nope, they are just a convenient excuse... H.
