Almost 1.8 million children one in seven in Britain live in households in which no one works, with more than three million families in total unemployment, figures from the Office for National Statistics show. The figures, which asre based on the Labour Force Survey (LFS) of employment, show only a minimal reduction in recent years of households where all family members are out of full-time work. Significantly, the figures showed that fewer working-age people from Asian families were out of work only 7.6 per cent and 10.7 per cent of those in the white ethnic group lived in a workless household. The highest level of unemployment was among the Chinese working group, at 28.3 per cent. The LFS estimates that, for the three months before June 2008, the employment rate for lone parents was 56.3 per cent, down 0.5 percentage points from the previous year and up 3.4 percentage points from five years earlier. During that period, there were 3.06 million workless households, representing 15.8 per cent of all working-age households, The figures are down 0.2 percentage points from the previous year and down 0.2 percentage points from five years earlier. Researchers using the LFS of employment established that there were 4.29 million working-age people living in workless households. That figure represented 11.4 per cent of the working-age population, down 0.4 percentage points from the previous year, and down 0.3 percentage points from five years earlier. UK has 3 million workless households - Home News, UK - The Independent Take the benefit away from the parents, use the money to set up funds for feeding and clothing the children in newly appointed 'care facilities'. A bit like the old soup kitchens, but only for the children. The lazy, good for nothing parents can go hang.

There are going to be a lot of folk out of work soon as the recession starts causing redundancies. What chance these workers who are going to be genuinely in need, with the scrounging classes hogging all the cash

I was made redundant 3 years ago.... and have been unable to find a job that doesn't demand weekend working hours as I have no one to look after the kids on the weekends... does that make me a scrounger too???? I don't have a car so am limited on distance, We have no brothers or sisters, and have no friends who don't work, I agree some people do have kids so they don't have to work but if you look at the job centre thing they say when the youngest child has reached the age of 6 they have to look for work... The only reason I don't get caught up in this is my husband works. but I would like a job... just there is NOTHING where I live for anyone who isn't a trained welder, sheet metal worker or a HGV driver! And all the colledge courses are Bloody ART!!!!! nothing thats actually useful! So we now have a town filled with people who can draw, but have no actual work Skills!!!!!! |
