A damning report commissioned by the BBC Trust yesterday accused the corporation of failing licence fee payers around the UK by reporting the news through a London-centric prism. The trust chairman, Sir Michael Lyons, said figures showing that Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales were routinely ignored in network news reports were an "extraordinary indictment" of BBC journalism, and ordered management to come up with concrete proposals by next month. Lyons warned that the failure to serve audiences in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and to report issues affecting them to the rest of the UK, could ultimately undermine universal support for the licence fee. But the long-mooted idea of a "Scottish Six" news bulletin at 6pm and separate bulletins for Wales and Northern Ireland, suggested as one possible remedy by the report, appeared to be ruled out in the short-term. More than a third of those surveyed by BMRB for the report felt the BBC was not relevant to the area where they lived, rising to 45% in Scotland. A separate, very expensive report, commisioned by the people who have too much of our money already, today revealed that water is wet, the sky is up, sugar is sweet and the TV License fee is going to go up anyway, just to pay for all these reports... H.

Anothe rexample of the BBC wasting our money - A friend of mine had a temp job at the BBC for a few weeks along with 11 others. They had to go around to designated areas of the BBC offices every hour to see how many people were sitting at thier desks to monitor use of space. I have my own office and could tell you exactly who does and doesn't use their space without 12 'assistants'.

If that story is to believed, then why are the news anchors mainly a) Irish or Northern Irish should I say b) Asian C) Scot's if it's so London centric? They trying to totally distort it? Not only that, but most of em are so bloody ignorant they make silly gaffe's with grammar, pronounciation, diction, use of slang, all the time. They're completely unprofessional most of the time. Make me wanna puke. |
