Default Internet users could face disconnection for illegal downloads

Ministers to compel ISPs to take action on piracy

Internet users who illegally download music and films could lose their access to the web under legislation aimed at cracking down on those who flout piracy laws. Powers being drafted by the government will compel internet service providers to take action against customers who access pirated material.

The Department of Media, Culture and Sport will recommend the plan in a green paper on the creative industries to be published this month, a source with knowledge of the paper said. Under the new sanctions users will face a "three strikes" regime. A warning email will be sent for the first offence, followed by suspension from the service and finally termination of the internet contract.

Me? I'm a good iTunes girl!

But seriously, I am quite please to see this. The music industry has suffered terribly from illegal sites.

Sorry sweets, not with you on this one. The poor little old music industry has been sucking us users in the UK for years. They have got extremely rich in years gone by, and now they are squealing like stuck pigs. They have consistently over priced CD s and vynal and Tapes. They are getting their just deserts as far as I am concerned.
I have by my own admission, downloaded over eight thousand MP3s. all the music that I used to have but, the quality of CDs and other recording s don't last for ever. So I am getting back the thousands of pounds that I have paid out for free.
As for being prosecuted, HA it is unworkable. Another so called crackdown by this so called government

have to agree with you Sweet, I think musicians and film makers should get their royalties. We will end up with an artless waste land otherwise. I mean would any of us work for nothing?

It is to protect the performers not the music companies.

It is comparable to farmers and supermarkets, Farmers struggle to make a living while the supermarkets make millions.

I shall try and give an example........My mind does work strangely....bear with me...

Lets take easyg's profession.....JCB driver ?
Spends days and weeks excavating perfectly aligned, inch perfect holes for foundations of a multi-million pound project. His expertise is renowned, his foundations are the best in all the land.......some bright spark finds a method of transporting the holes to other sites, and for free.
So easyg digs one lot of foundations and never works again.

More legislation drafted by the hard of thinking?

Does this only apply to individual households? What about businesses?

It's probably a breach of the European Convention on Human Rights to deprive someone of their access to the internet for no reason.

We have one broadband connection coming into the house which is shared amongst seven PCs. Likewise the office connection is shared via the LAN to multiple users. All of them share the same external IP address.

What really annoys me is that someone probably got paid a lot of money for coming up with this crap.
