I am coming to the conclusion that rigorous exercise, and so called healthy diet, and living a sensible life; is a waste of time.
My G/F daughter was rushed into hospital Tuesday morning, complaining of "shortness of breath" She was diagnosed as having a blood clot on her lung.
A more fit person you could never wish to meet. Eats healthily, cycles ten miles a day, swims three times a week, and she is now laid up in hospital, and has been told to cut down on exercise. She is 33 and it has devastated her.
My thoughts are that in the past, having been a fitness fanatic (IN THE PAST) I have completed nine marathons, and was addicted to running. Result, two knee joints shot to shit, and one hip joint going that way.
I now eat when I WANT to eat, not when I am supposed to eat, do gentle walking, and basically let my body tell me what it wants. Drink water when I am thirsty (or v&c) heh heh and eat when I am hungry. I manage to stay at 10s 8Lb, being 6' tall.
What does anyone think?

A friend of mine, about two years younger, a non-smoker, non-drinker, was thin as a rake, ate sensibly, went on walking holidays and generally lead a very healthy life. She died of a coronary thrombosis a couple of years back.
My Mum, smoked roll-ups (cheaper), was about 5 stone over weight died of the same disease at about the same age.
I work out 5 days a week am veggie and dont smoke, I am the only woman in the family not to have osteoporosis or arthritis. everyone else had a widows stoop by the time they reached 55, I am in my mid 60s and not a sign. I am going to keep on doing what I'm doing.
Which brings me to another thing. I don't think there has not been a food product, drink, or pastime that has not been linked to cancer, heart attacks longevity of life or any other life threatening disorder. The media seem to fill the tabloids with this when they have nothing else to report. i.e. space fillers.

Well, you have just mentioned something that really pisses me off. EVERY week, there is some new health scare. I think the media must work out a rota. Salt comes around about every two years, E numbers were in the news a while back, but most remember this from 20 years ago.

Poppy, I am not saying that we should all be couch potatoes. But the inclination towards 100% fitness through overworking you body, just ain't natural. You only have to look at the singer MADDONA. She is actually to my mind, unattractive. There are no natural feminine lines, she has gone to far in my mind,
But on another level, good for you if it does you good and you feel better then obviously carry on. But myself, I went to far and now suffer the consequences.
