I shall get out all the figures relating to Aid paid and Interest repaid from poor African countries if you want, plus the conditions imposed by the international banks for every last cent 'given' to Africa.

I didn't say 'aid' was any help at all. They need to stop electing knuckle heads and sort out education, lawlessness and perhaps try and make corruption less acceptable. As SP points out, there's no reason why most of them should be poor at all, given how mineral rich they can be. I can't think of a place on earth that doesn't have a few redeeming qualities, but that doesn't stop them from being shite-holes.

Sorry for defacing your post, but I've highlighted the key word in your post.

This is what everyone seems to be missing. We CAN'T fix it for them, THEY have to WANT TO FIX IT, then we can lend them support while THEY DO IT.

Sorry but the handouts (And yes Bruv, the interest payments) need to stop, they aren't really helping, they are just making a few wealthy crackpot dictators a lot more wealthy.

I honestly believe they do want to fix it, but due to outside interests deeply entrenched into their economy with their own agenda, plus the bias of the international banks, it is not as straight forward as we think.

Only yesterday Duncan Bannatyne BBC2 showed how British American Tobacco is targetting children in advertising campaigns, against any moral consideration, and against the laws relevent in the countries concerned.......why ?....because it can.

Before commenting......ask yourself why it is OK to do in Africa what is illegal in every developed country. It may give you an insight into your own attitude.

The reason Mugabe has such a following, is the fact he is attacking the status quo, so......... when Bush comes over all moral about him.......makes you think ?
