No no Police overstepping their authority?

The mother was out of her car for just minutes and no more than 10 yards (9 metres) away.

But that was long and far enough to land Treffly Coyne in court after a police officer spotted her sleeping 2-year-old daughter alone in the vehicle.
Mrs Coyne had taken her two older daughters to pour £4 in coins into a Salvation Army collection box.
Minutes later, she was under arrest - the focus of both a police investigation and a probe by the state's child welfare agency.
Now the case that has become an Internet flash point for people who either blast police for overstepping their authority or Mrs Coyne for putting a child in danger.
The 36-year-old suburban mother is preparing to go on trial tomorrow on misdemeanour charges of child endangerment and obstructing a community service officer. If convicted, she could be sentenced to a year in jail and fined £1,250 even though child welfare workers found no credible evidence of abuse or neglect.

I once pulled a baby out of a car on a very hot summers night. I shouted to the gathering crowd, and asked 'who's got a Cortina, can I borrow your keys'?

He had been there for hours and was suffocating under a blanket. A bottle had been left for the child, which he could have choked on. But it was me the police wanted to arrest for 'breaking in' to a car with a key. The crowd swallowed me up and the officer was stood there holding the baby.

Getting back to this story. She did nothing wrong.

its the old case of using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, a simple word in the womans ear would have been enough, mind you they'd rather take a woman to court over things like this, than chasing real vilans

I absolutely concur. Far to dangerous!

Funnily enough I nearly titled this thread 'Soft Target'.

You do all realise that this has NOTHING to do with Britain, I suppose?

Unless Britain has gained a Chicago, since I was last there.

So, should she have let the two older girls go to the collection box alone?
