Arranged marriages still carry an awful lot of pressure for both parties, especially for the female involved. There is also the difficulty of leaving that marriage, for some will mean ostracism or even death in some rare cases.

I believe both types of marriage should be outlawed in this country.

Arranged marriages are done with the best interests of the children at heart. The parents on both sides want their children to be happy. It is just that we are not used to the idea of parental approval or of matchmaking but I know people in arranged marriages who think the way some westerners go husband or wife 'hunting' is less likely to be successful and seems rather shocking and promiscuous to them. Forced marriages are a different kettle of fish altogether though.

That is as maybe Willow but you can bet your bottom dollar that Caneze Riazs mother now wishes they hadn't arranged her marriage to the monster who killed her and her beautiful daughters. As far as I am concerned these marriages should be stopped.

A friend of mine went through with an arranged marriage to please her parents, she didn't want it and didn't like the guy they chose for her.
As soon as he was established in Britain he left her, this was about three months into the marriage, she being rather feisty insisted on a divorce against her families wishes. She also pursued her husband through the courts and somehow got him deported back the indea, as he had come into the country under false pretences. The family rift lasted four years, she was finally accepted back after she met and married a friend of her brother, who had stood by her through all of it.
Not all parents consider their children in arranged marriages, if they did we wouldn't ave so called honour killings when girls refuse.
