Default Digital or not to digital, THAT is the question.

I am thinking of buying a digital camera, but am concerned about some of the things I see in the adverts.

1) My printer has slots for XD, MS/DUO, CF, and SD-MMC. APPARANTLY these are memory casrds, but why is CF, so bloody big, when all the others look like slots for 28mm postmen?

And are any better than the othjer?

2) SOME cameras I have seen say you need Pentium 3 or above, some windows XP and others windows 2000 (Which is what I have), I have also seen cameras with USB attachments.

WHY?

3) I have paint, and Imaging for windows which is CRAP, more pixels than a large pixel factory.

How the HEL do you get a photograph from the camera to your paint programme as either BITMAP, JPEG or GIF or whatever?

I do not want to spend €500 and then find the camera is not compatible with my computer.

I have a fuji fine pix camera it is at least 4 years old now. I can take the memory card out and slot into the computer and upload the photos. I dont because it wears out the contacts on the card.
I use the usb port. there is a place on the camera to plug in a lead and then plug into computer upload photo to computer save to " my pictures" or where ever you store pictures on your comp.
Once you have them on file
open file >open paint shop or whatever you want to use .
with both files open drag and drop the photo that you want to work on into paint (or photoshop or pro or whatever) once there you can do what you want to it. click save and there you are. Done.
I use paintshop pro 9 for all my graphic art.
I have photoshop too but I dont like it.
this one I stood the pike on it's head

and this one is bearshaving a picnick, all digital trickery

All my life I had no interest in photography at all, until Steve bought me a digital for my birthday a few years back. I have not looked back. Love the freedom of just taking a picture, and either keeping or deleting if it does not turn out right. We don't print or have them printed, but are srored on memory sticks and DVD's.

Von, be careful you don't buy a camera that is not compatible with your OS.

I have Paintshop, Photoshop, Fireworks and Macromeadia and I am always fiddleing with something. I have taught Steve how to get rid of people or other 'objects' that he does not want in the photo's he takes. He has a sooperdooper camera.

Iam looking at this one.

Sorry it is in German, but the techy stuff should be no problem. It mentions windows 2000, which is what I have, so....fingers crossed for October.

They do have a technical help line, but by the time they have answered your question, you have more phone bill than the bloody thing is worth that you are asking about.

Yes Von, don't even bother with 'Windows paint', it's far too basic. Chances you will get some kind of editing tool with the camera.

NEVER had a Fuji film YET that did not GET knackered and knackered my Olympus cameras.

And I had five, and averaged 200 pictures per day for five or so years.

my fuji is digital, if I had to pay fro film and developing I would be broke. Have taken nearly 300 photos since Saturday.
Most were for different community groups not for me.
