Default Green Light For Huge Wind Farm

Project To Create 200 Jobs Scottish And Southern Energy

THE largest onshore wind farm in Europe will help make Scotland the continent's "green capital", Alex Salmond said yesterday.

The First Minister spoke as the Scottish government approved the 152-turbine Clyde development near Abington in Lanarkshire.

He said: "The Clyde wind farm will represent a very important step in the development of renewable energy in Scotland and in meeting European targets.

"It is another step towards making Scotland the green energy capital of Europe."

The project is expected to bring £600million investment, will create 200 jobs during construction and will generate enough power for 320,000 homes.

But do we really want to cover Britain in turbines?

Yey hooray for green energy! Wind Rocks! Turbines are beautiful!
Do we really want to built nuclear power stations and cover Britain in nuclear waste dumps?

PLANS FOR ANOTHER EIGHT WIND TURBINES IN FENLAND.

EIGHT extra wind turbines could be erected in Fenland if two planning applications are approved today (Wednesday).
The Co-operative Group Ltd wants to add an extra seven turbines on land north of the existing Coldham wind farm where there are eight turbines and TCI Renewables wants to put one turbine on the Anglian Water site at Creek Road in March.
March Town Council and Christchurch Parish Council are not happy with the Coldham plan.
March councillors have called for Fenland Council to refuse the plan until the district council has a policy on wind turbines.

FENLAND: Community completely and bitterly divided over turbines, MP tells Parliament
A community completely and bitterly divided over proposals for wind turbines is how Marshland St James was described in Parliament. MP for North West Norfolk Henry Bellingham called into question the efficiency of small clusters of onshore turbines. He said: "Putting small clusters of eight, nine or 10 turbines onshore does untold environmental damage, for very little gain ...Government subsidies are effectively being used by developers to achieve what is known locally as the Tesco factor: if one has enough money and one keeps coming back, one will eventually overwhelm the planning inspectorate - and even persuade local people, who have to use their own money to appeal, that it is not worth the fight."

Personally, I am for them. They are an elegant form of green energy.

When you put it that way, turbines are more attractive than nuclear or traditional power stations, and somewhat safer, though there is the argument that they can cause harm to birds.

I like the look of them when there are a few (Like up near SP), but I find the very large wind farms a little imposing and they can spoil the landscape somewhat.

In certain lights they disappear. They are beautiful. I cannot actually believe they would cause problems for more than the thickest bird, and I also believe they will learn.

when they built the very first wind farm, in Britain, it was just across he moor from us.
We couldnt see it from ours as there was a huge tore in between.
But the moor ponies and sheep seamed to love them, the ponies would lean against them and go to sleep. I think they found them soothing.

I am a Darwin girl. We have an extremely intelligent creationist at work, who seems to lack logic. Darwin's work was/is totally logical.
