Default RSS feeds

RSS feeds, what are they exactly, and what do how do they work, what do I need to see them?
I see it on sites all the time, and haven't a clue.

Feeds from sites like the BBC news etc, that update your site all the time with headlines. If you do onto the BBC News web page they are at the bottom, as well as most newspaper sites. Free to use.

I looked on 'todmorden pride' and clicked rss feed and got a whole load of html code, not news.
I figured I must need to set something up to read it, or am I supposed to post that on my site somewhere in order to receive it. I wanted to add it to my station website.
but am baffled.

The one thing that pisses me off about RSS thingies is the amount of new posts it posts in the "new posts" area...I use it so i notice.

Yeah, I have thought about it here, but then what would be the point of people posting news items. So, I haven't bothered.

I am hoping the one on tod pride will only be their news, but if it brings up tons of irrelevant stuff I can scrap it, that is if I get it going in the first place. lol

I have never liked them on sites such as this, as they over ride the user new posts.

By the way.......I have just discovered I can edit the tags....oh dear me....explains a lot.
