I watched a Megastructures documentary on something that has been intriguing me for sometime.

This is the project that some fear will create 'Black Holes'.

The schedule in the run up to the first beam circulating in the LHC is falling into place. Each of the eight sectors is in the final stages of cooling, electrical testing, equipment testing and powering. The current plan is to have the machines ready for the first circulation of a beam in a few weeks. Then the progressive commissioning of the machine for operation at 5 TeV will begin.

Yes. A connector went wrong last night, they went straight to it and it was one hell of a job to get to.

My concern (as I believe I voiced on a similarly named forum a year or so ago) is that they will succeed in their aims, create a black hole, and what then? Black holes are bad... They really suck....

That is the worry, but I cannot help but be fascinated. It is, the most advanced and hugest piece of engineering ever attempted.
