Pictures of the incident at Toulouse last November,
this aircraft was about to be delivered to Etihad Airlines of Abu Dhabi.
this aircraft was about to be delivered to Etihad Airlines of Abu Dhabi.
Here is what happened:
Nine employees of Etihad were aboard the aircraft (and no one else) and taxied to the run up area.
Full power was applied to all 4 engines.
Mistake 1: the aircraft was not chocked.
With all engines at full power, the aircraft on the ground and the brake
set the aircraft assumes it is about to start it's take off roll, so it
warns the occupants on the flight deck (with horns)to configure for take
off i.e flap and slat positions.
Now, as these morons had no intention of taking off (thankfully) these audible
warnings were getting on their nerves, so the brightest one amongst them
decided to pull the ground sense circuit breaker.
This was BIG mistake 2.
You see, modern aircraft these days are designed to be smarter than the
humans (especially the dickheads that day) on the flight deck, so by
pulling this CB the aircraft then goes into "air mode" some systems
become active and others are inhibited, one of the inhibited systems is
the BRAKES.
1. No need for wheel brakes in the air.
2. More importantly it prevents the pilot landing with brakes applied
and bursting all tyres on touchdown.
The end result can be seen
The blast wall won.
The aircraft was never delivered.
