Cool Spain arrests 'prolific' hackers

Spanish police have arrested five hackers they describe as being among the most active on the internet.
The hackers, who include two 16-year-olds, are accused of disrupting government websites in the United States, Asia and Latin America.
Police say they co-ordinated attacks over the internet and hacked into 21,000 web pages over two years.
The inquiry began in March after a Spanish political party's site was disabled after the Spanish election. The five were arrested in Barcelona, Burgos, Malaga and Valencia.

I wonder about MY computer.

Sometimes I get up at 5 or 6 in the evening, and my modem is active. Although I have not used the computer for hours. NORMALLY the modem switches off after 10 minutes.

ALSO, I come to my machine today, and find my icons fro Thunderbird and Firefox have been changed!

Have you run any spyware software? You might have some malware on your machine.

Von, surely you have at the very least a firewall, If you have no protection like me three years ago. I lost everything through a Trojan virus. You can download lots of free shit from the Internet, won't cost you a penny.

my Norton (its OK you can laugh) stopped three trojans in the last two weeks so there are some active at the minute, I know Norton has a lot of knockers but I have been using it for 4 years and my computer is on 24 hrs a day. I have never had down time due to a virus or such like

If you leave the PC on and the modem connected and have anti virus and firewall programs installed, they will connect periodically to update.
If you have protection installed, the internet being what it is, you WILL be infected sooner or later.
There are numerous free programs out there that do the job.
