The coming traffic probs with the Olympics

It has been admitted by the Government, or TFL (same thing) that next year, when the Olympics begin and throughout the whole month long, that there are going to be humongous transport problems in the Capital. Therefore our vaunted Coalition has advised us Londoners to either change our travel patterns, and or leave the Capital for the duration of the games.
Well F*****G excuse me. I and most Londoners did not want the fricking thing in the first place. We will be paying through the nose for decades to come, so that outsiders, corporate industries can brown nose foreigners with tickets, that the ordinary Joe in the street never got a sniff at.
You would not believe, travelling the streets of London; the amount of extra traffic signals that have been put in place for this occasion.
I am telling you now, in my job I get to travel all over London, and it is gridlocked from 6.30am till 6.30pm. When the Zil lanes come into force, there will be absolute pandemonium. black cab drivers that I know; are going to take action and blockade the special lanes that are being provided for the Olympic elite. I myself am thinking of breaking down astride the lanes with my big yellow JCB. It makes my blood boil. :smilie_daumenneg:

There will be many more that ended up in the same boat. Throw in the chaos to the driving  that easyg mentioned along with the inevitable parking issues and pound to a penny small businesses are the ones that suffer.  Even if its only 2 weeks they will suffer especially if the economic climate is as bad or worse than it is now. More and more businesses are relying on passing trade to get by and this will disappear for the duration of the games. They will struggle to break even and though this is a short interruption to trade it could still send some of  them under if cash is tight.

Terry lost a job, somebody else must have gained it, that's business.
All these hold ups ?
Means there will be many many more people, all needing feeding and bed and other sundry services.
That's without the boost to the construction industry and it's suppliers.
The revenue generated by ticket sales is minor compared to the overall benefits from visitor numbers.

Me too!!

This is just another example of people spending OUR money on something THEY want. Is it putting a roof over the heads of the homeless in London? Is it feeding the hungry? Is it finding work for the (BRITISH) unemployed?

NO! So I say teach them a lesson that they need to learn - You govern by the consent of the people not by divine right!

Are all the Poles popping home for dinner ?
Are all the visitors bringing packed lunches and sleeping bags ?

Most of the homeless have other 'issues' nothing to do with a lack of shelter.
Where ARE all these hungry people in the UK ?

H. gunz:

Well said Haqa
I have said this time after time. Its the British Construction workers who are feeling the brunt. I have lost out because wages have dropped to mid 80's standards, because; not only the Poles, but most Eastern European workers will work for significantly less pay than his British counterpart, because he does not have to pay high housing costs and general council taxes that we have to.
The average Polish worker, will rent a four bedroom house, and get ten other workmates to share the cost. That does not take much working out as to what the shared rent costs.
To get back to the Olympics. I rely on public utility work, being a JCB driver, for what ever meagre work that I do get. When the Olympics start, then for a whole month there will be no road works whatsoever, apart from real emergency gas leaks, water leaks.

No roadworks, at least that may relieve congestion.

Does that mean that there will be resources to fix potholes in the rest of the country?

No road works!!!!! ok so when there is a gas leak, when there is a water leak, or a leccy cable goes west, what happens then SKINNY?????????
Believe you me, I have had so much abuse thrown at me for causing traffic jams, because we need to repair basic utility services; so that life can carry on.
Think on SKINNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
